Creating Instructors and Training Counselors with the Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes to Excel

Have you ever wanted to become an NRA Training Counselor?

Northern Virginia Training Counselors offers a Training Counselor Workshop at least once annually.  The next Virginia Training Counselor Workshop will be held in Arlington, VA over Labor Day weekend September 5-7, 2009.  That may seem like a long way away but it is never too early to start the application process for a Training Counselor Workshop - it often takes prospective Training Counselors several weeks to get through the NRA approval process

The workshop will be held at 2611 Jefferson Davis Highway, Suite 11111, Arlington, VA 22202.  For those familiar with Arlington the location of the course is in Airport Plaza II in Crystal City and convenient to Reagan National Airport (DCA).  NOTE: I am not in the street naming/numbering business - while the mailing address of the class location is the one given previously the actual location is at 2611 Clark Street which is just off of Jefferson Davis Highway and immediately by the bridge from Jefferson Davis Highway to Reagan National Airport.  If you drive you will need to park in the lot to the right of the building.

The closest/cheapest hotel is the Marriott Courtyard Arlington Crystal City/Reagan National Airport, 2899 Jefferson Davis Highway, Arlington, Virginia 22202, Phone:  1-703-549-3434. It is an easy walk to the class location.

On the evening of the second day of the Workshop we try to have an informal dinner/get together at a local restaurant to get to know each other better over a good meal and a few drinks (of your choice of course no one will force you to have alcoholic beverages).  Please note that this get together is not included as part of your Workshop fee and attendance is NOT mandatory.

In order to qualify to attend an NRA Training Counselor Workshop you must have been an NRA Instructor for at least two years and have trained a minimum of 25 students.  You must obtain permission from the NRA Training Counselor Coordinator prior to your participation.  He may be contacted at trainingcounselor@nrahq.org - further information along with application forms may be reviewed at NRA HQ TC Link.

The typical class schedule is HERE.

You are also required to submit three personal recommendations.  These recommendations must be submitted to the NRA along with your application to become a Training Counselor - which we will provide you during the class.  Bring your three recommendation letters with you to the class.  The complete details for these recommendation letters may be found at Training Counselor Reference letters.

You will also need 3 or 4 three ring binders (I use 2 inch) to hold the NRA lesson plans that you will receive.

The Chief Instructor for the Training Counselor Workshop is NRA Master Training Counselor Mack Elliott who will be assisted by NRA Master Training Counselor Ron Barter and NRA Senior Training Counselors - Tom Eichling, K. William "Doc" Harter and Rob Seastrom.

The cost for the Training Counselor Workshop is $400, made out to Kenneth M. Elliott, Jr., which must be paid in advance.  $100 of tuition is non-refundable.  Checks should be mailed to Kenneth M Elliott, 8690 Young Court, Springfield, VA 22153-2253.  PLEASE MARK THE ENVELOPE - TRAINING COUNSELOR WORKSHOP.

Send e-mail to seminar@NVTCS.org if you have any questions.  Please register NLT 1 August 2009 as it often takes several weeks to get prospective Training Counselors approved by the NRA to take the course.
