Instructor and Training Counselor Training

Have you ever thought of becoming an NRA instructor or Training Counselor? We welcome those with shooting experience, a desire to teach and to learn, and an uncompromising attitude about safety to become certified to impart to others the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for the safe use of firearms. Pistol Instructor Training

Northern Virginia Training Counselors offers Basic Pistol Instructor Training several times a year. Participants successfully completing the course will attain instructor certification in all of the pistol courses offered by the NRA, Basic Pistol, Home Firearms Safety, and Personal Protection in the Home.

Our course begins with Basic Instructor Training, a 6-hour course of study outlining policies and procedures governing NRA course delivery, and preparing candidates to plan and deliver NRA courses, and order course materials from the NRA. Instructor candidates take the lead for the remainder of classroom instruction, learning the curriculum for each course by planning and delivering demonstration lectures. Home Firearms Safety is covered on Saturday afternoon, Basic Pistol on Sunday, and Personal Protection in the Home on Monday. During range exercises, instructor candidates alternate acting as instructor and pupil to allow greatest understanding of live-fire activities within the NRA course curriculum.

Personal Protection Outside The Home

Additionally, at least once a year we will offer Instructor Training in the NRA's Personal Protection Outside The Home. You must already be certified as an Instructor in NRA Basic Pistol and Personal Protection Inside The Home.

This course takes a full four days. in accordance with NRA Training Department requirements the first two days take up the Personal Protection Outside The Home student course - if you have successfully completed both sections of the student course successfully at the advanced level with both strong side holster and purse, and can present the course certificates, you do not have to participate in this section of our class.

The second two days is required for completion of the Personal Protection Outside The Home Instructor Training course.
